About LocalCut
LocalCut is a set of tools for common tasks that are not worth installing software for: extracting audio from video, making GIFs, compressing video, resizing images and converting subtitles. They run directly in your web browser.
How it works
Most online converters upload your file to a server and convert it there. LocalCut sends the conversion program to your browser instead, and your file is processed on your own computer. Video processing uses ffmpeg.wasm, a WebAssembly port of the open-source project FFmpeg. Image processing uses the browser's Canvas feature.
This approach has two benefits. Your personal videos and photos are not stored anywhere else. And you do not wait for uploads and downloads. The trade-off is that processing speed depends on your device.
How the site is funded
LocalCut is free and is funded by ads shown on its pages. Ads are placed only where they do not cover the tool area.
Copyright
LocalCut converts files that you have. It does not download videos from other websites or platforms. You must have the rights to the files you convert.
Open source
AI upscaling uses Real-ESRGAN (BSD-3-Clause) models converted for the browser. The full license is here.
