How to use

  1. Drop a video (MP4, MOV, MKV, etc.) or audio file (MP3, WAV, M4A, etc.) in the area above.
  2. When the waveform appears, drag across the part you want. Drag the white handles at each end to adjust the start and end.
  3. Press Space or Play selection to listen to the selected part only.
  4. Choose a format and quality, then click Save audio.

Precise trimming

Scroll the mouse wheel to zoom the waveform around the cursor. The more you zoom, the more precise you can be, down to 0.01 seconds. Zoom to selection fills the view with the selected range. You can also type times into the start and end fields (for example, 1:23.45).

Choosing a format

  • MP3: Plays on almost any device. 192 kbps is enough for most uses.
  • WAV: Uncompressed audio. Good for further editing in a video editor or DAW. Files are large.
  • M4A (AAC): Smaller than MP3 at the same quality. Used for iPhone ringtones, among other things.

Turn on fade in and fade out to make the sound rise smoothly at the start and drop smoothly at the end.

FAQ

The waveform does not appear.
If the browser cannot read the format directly, the conversion engine reads it instead. If that also fails, the file has no audio track.
Saving as MP3 takes a while.
WAV saves right away, but MP3 and M4A need encoding. The first time, the conversion engine (about 31 MB) also downloads. A 1-minute range usually takes a few seconds.
Will the audio sound better than the original?
No. The quality of the original file is the upper limit. A higher bitrate than the original only makes the file bigger.
